Have I told you that we are in the Last 100 Days of the year? It’s totally my time of the year!
My house is decorated for Halloween – and still safe from Zombies.
And it’s pumpkin time! I love pumpkin time!
I have reevaluated my life, my balance and I have redefined my goals for the Last 100 Days, and if you like that kinda thing, you need to be following OrtsofSorts with me! You know how I love a good challenge, and well, I’m LOVING this one!
You know what else I’m doing? #Unprocessed October! Yes, you heard that right. I am in a challenge to only eat unprocessed foods. During the month of October. The best month of the year. Halloween Candy. Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
And I can’t eat any of it.
But hey, you should do this with me! If you want to join, there is a badge on the right side you can click through and sign the pledge! Come join, seriously, it’ll be fun!
I survived Day 1, as part of my Living in the Now, I’m taking that as a win; however, I did keep a food diary to share with you to help keep me on track.
#unprocessed
Day 1:
Breakfast: Coffee is unprocessed. I should probably read the instructions for this, but I’m sure coffee is unprocessed. I’m brewing a cup.
Coffee is NOT the same without my Pumpkin Spice Creamer. Or my Peppermint Mocha Creamer. Unsweeted almond milk is not the same. I bet that is processed. Probably should have read the ingredient list.
I may not survive until the end of the month.
I have four homemade Lara bars left. All hope is not lost.
Why are there left over fried pickles still here? I told Mr. T they were here, and he knows the reps send the left overs home for him. Why would today be the day he doesn’t eat them?!? Technically I could make those at home… so that doesn’t count, right? Crap. I’m sure it counts.
I want extra points for walking away.
There should be a point system for this.
I should read the instructions; there might be a point system.
Morning Snack:
Maybe I could live on smoothies. Fruit, spinach, technically you can make yogurt at home – I have a friend that did it, and I know all of the ingredients – flax seed… it says “seed”, that counts. Almond milk. Man, I have got to read that ingredient list!!!
Read through the instructions. There is not a point system.
Lunch:
This looks like a normal meal for me, I can do this. Massive salad time. Romaine, carrots, zucchini, almond slivers, capers.
Note to self: Research how to make salad dressing. Like now.
Afternoon snack:
I am seriously hungry. Pear. Grapes. Homemade Lara bar.
I have to go run an errand. I drive right by fast food row.
How processed can a Taco Bell burrito really be? It’s vegetarian. There has to be points for that.
Maybe we need a sliding scale…
Dinner:
Maybe I should make my own points scale, I drove right past Taco Bell. And I drove past every other restaurant along the way.
Hello smoothie, my old friend.
Hello left over fried pickles, how did you get in my tummy?
Oh dear. 🙂 I wondered how the unprocessed challenge was working out for you. Thanks for the day 1 update. Highly entertaining!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! 🙂
What inspired the challenge? You do get involved in many challenges!
I do! I love things that push me to improve!
Your Halloween decorations are great! I love Halloween 🙂
Thank you so very much! It’s my favorite holiday! 🙂
Hahahahahaha you always make me laugh Kate!! Good luck in the challenge, you can do it!! xxx
Thanks Diana! I’ll have to update everyone 😀
Not ready for Halloween yet, although I have T’s costume ready (She wants to be a bat!). Good luck on the challenges, will be cheering you on! 🙂 x
Thank you Dean! And I am still amazed at how Little T is growing – can’t wait to see her as a bat! 🙂
I love the play by play!! That’s how I think about food! I always drink my coffee black but the other day McDonald’s gave me the wrong coffee- 2 splenda, 2 cream. It was really good-now I have a problem!!! Good luck with #unprocessed October!
hahahahaha, yeah, I don’t like a little creamer in my coffee, apparently I like a little coffee in my creamer… and I decided that my creamer was going to be my exception – I couldn’t go through that again!!
OMG haha I don’t blame you on the fried pickles. I think I wouldn’t have made it past the no salad dressing… though smoothies are good. I was just about to suggest my PB&J fave when I realized PB&J are not unprocessed… uh… yeah, I like my pumpkin processed goodness too so I’ll just admire you from afar while I stuff my face with the pumpkin spice oatmeal I just found in Wal-Mart today 🙂
pumpkin spice oatmeal?!? I bet I can duplicate that with oats and pumpkin and spices! I’ll have to work on that!!
I have homemade jam that I use, so it’s unprocessed, and I can always make my own PB, so that totally qualifies! It’s the bread that is harder to make from scratch, but I found a fun recipe the other day I may have to try!
Oh wow! I’ve always wanted to make my own jam! If it works you should share 😛
Oh, Kate, thank goodness your house is zombie protected and sounds like your gut and all it’s lovely little microbes are going to be more protected now too.
I know you can do this…just remember, unprocessed is what people used to call ‘food’. 😉
Big hugs and all the best! 🙂
hahahhaha, what people used to call “food”. Oh that’s so true!!! I will admit I ran some errands today and the hardest part was not pulling in to grab a diet coke 😦
Giving stuff like that up is always tough, when I kicked my Coke habit (wait, that sounds bad, let’s try Coca-Cola) it was rough, but now almost 20 years later, I don’t even miss it.
Best advice, keep busy and give yourself lots of yummy, unprocessed food love.
Big hugs, sweetie, you got this. 🙂
Haha what a great idea. Your body will thank you 🙂 x
well, I have been eliminating more and more processed, but it’s been a nice and slow process that I got to do as I wanted… I think this month will be very eye opening! And I know I will have more smoothies now than I’ve ever had before! LOL
Love your Halloween decorations. I always drink my coffee black, so I’m halfway there. 😉
Thank you, I’m a big fan of Halloween! I love coffee… but I love flavored creamers more!! 😀
I’ve already fell off the wagon I think? Lunch meat? Yay or Nay? Love the mantel & the fireplace! I’m so doing that!
I think if it was the processed bought off the rack meat that’s a no-no, but you can get fairly unprocessed at the deli counter… but, there are some lunch meats that have ingredients that you know and recognize and those are totally fine!
But, I had fried pickles last night, so I think we both are good! 🙂
Thank you so much for the s/0! Also, thank you for joining me on this crazy #unprocessed adventure! My first day was was a huge success (challenge). I did supremely well with breakfast (smoothie), lunch (apple and almonds), dinner (clean corn tortilla, sauteed red peppers, small amount of clean grilled chicken, cheese, salsa). Yes, all un or moderately processed. Evening snack (Jack Daniels and homemade cheesecake left from my birthday). Ummm… I could make my own unprocessed graham crackers so this could work. I could make my own cream cheese or similar type of cheese to make the filling. I could have used cherries picked off of my parents cherry tree… Yep! Big Win! Day by day!
hahahahaha, that’s totally a Big Win!! Very well done! Today is game day, but our pastor and his wife are coming to watch Mr. T, and taking us to dinner afterwards… I couldn’t (and didn’t want to) say no, so this will be a real world experiment and see how close I can get!
Haha! I’m sure you’ll sail through the month processing bytes and bites to make them fit the challenge.
You have got that right Nancy!! I’ll just take it one day at a time – and you’ll understand this – but I ate those fried pickles, and I didn’t feel bad! I didn’t see it as a failure, and that is a big step for me. Food isn’t a reward or punishment, and I didn’t feel like I was a failure when I missed the mark! I accepted it and will now work to do better. So yes, this will be more of a learning experience as I process what does and doesn’t really fit in my new healthier life! 🙂 Big thanks to you on this Friday morning!
All of life is a learning experience ~ to progress, not perfection!
LOVE your decorations my friend. Absolutely wonderful. Good luck to your unprocessed October – I wish you the best. XOXO – Bacon (AKA in the uncooked form – snorts and oinks)
LOL, thank you ever so much!!
I’m pretty sure that Cheez Whiz grows on a small shrub in the mountains of Peru. At least that is what I was told. 😀
hahahahahaha! Greatness Paul! I am pretty sure that I just heard that same rumor about my coffee creamer!! LOL, we do get to make our own exceptions as this really is an exercise about paying attention to what we eat… and I’m pretty sure that my coffee creamer is about to happen!
Lol, I want to read how this one works out! (And no, I’m not in. I already failed)
LOL! Fine V, don’t join in on the madness, er, I mean fun!! Actually, I’m pretty sure that I’ll be drinking a lot of smoothies, but I’ve been working to eliminate processed food, so this will (should) help me discover and decide how far I can go with it. And it’s day 2 and I’m about to discover that my coffee creamer is going on the “exception” list!
Is wine considered processed or matured? 😉
LOL, I would have to go with “matured”!!!
(That was the Friday night comment)
