The Day I Said a Bad Word

There are two things y’all need to know about me.

First, I don’t use much bad language.  I’ve seen all the meme’s:

People who curse at Did That Just Happen Blog

But I’m from the school of thought that is more:

Intelligent people do not use profanity at Did That Just Happen Blog

(and the “-Me” credited in that quote is not Me, I found that on the internet and couldn’t track it back to the original source!  If you said this, let me know!)

And the second thing you need to know about me is:

I keep your number in my phone so I know not to answer at Did That Just Happen Blog

Yes, I’m that person!

Now that you know these two things… let me tell you how they relate.  And if foul language offends you, well, you shouldn’t have clicked on this blog when it is clearly about a day I said a bad word!

So…

The other day I got a text from my buddy, Bert.

Bad Word Day

So, that happened. My phone betrayed me.  It accidentally Face Time’d my Ex.

And I said a really bad word!!

And while I’m saying all the bad words in my head, I am sending my Ex a text and literally it says

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to call you, I was asking Siri to beatbox for me!”

Because that doesn’t sound fake AT ALL!!!

But, he called, and I answered, and I kid you not, told me all about his day – like it hadn’t been years since we had talked!  Like it hadn’t been years since we had talked and he had said he was going to call.  And never did!

Okay, so this is my Ex from a long time ago, and while we weren’t together long, it was an intense relationship, and while I had the utmost respect for him, he and I both will admit that towards the end, well, we were young, tempers were strong.

For the most part, it’s been fine.  We work in the same industry but not in the same State (most of the time) and while we have run into each other at functions, it is rare.

And let me tell you, I swear I could be a secret agent, I am awesome at ducking and eluding capture!!

At least, I am, until my phone decides to betray me!!!!

Back to the story.  My phone betrayed me.  I talked to my Ex.

For like an hour.

He wants to mend our relationship.

Not get back together, I was able to determine that in that phone call, but just to mend our relationship.

Dean Winchester says no at Did That Just Happen blog

I know that inside my head I was reacting like Dean Winchester – “no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No, no no.  No, no. No”

What came out was “Sure, uh, let me process all this, but I can be open to it”

So that just happened.  And so far I’ve been really grown up about it.  A few friends that I’ve talked to have commented at how grown up I’ve been and how I’ve been handling it so very well, really mature about the whole thing actually.

I changed the ring tone for my Ex to dogs barking… cause he could still be a dog!

But no one needs to know that!!! 🙂

The Waiting Game

vaguebooking

VaugeBooking idiot

While this post doesn’t have any details, I am NOT doing a vaguebook, er, vaguepost.

I’m not sure vaguepost was a thing before, but it is now!

Because we all now I’m such a trendsetter.

Liz-lemon-eye-roll

But I am stuck in a waiting game!  Like an endless loop of waiting and waiting and waiting.  And waiting

Have y’all met me? Type A control freak that makes a decision faster than most should ever be made? Yeah, me.

I don’t like to wait.

So, I am opening myself up to the experience that will eventually make its way to me, and I hope to learn something in the process. I am practicing letting go – which in my case, is that I’m not attached to the outcome.  And I’m doing pretty good at it…

But seriously, who drags stuff out? Don’t tell me on Monday you’ll call this weekend… I want to know now!!

This is life altering stuff.  Don’t make me wait!

Okay, maybe not life altering.

Okay, not life altering at all, pretty much not important to anyone besides me and like 2 people, but that’s not the point!! Waiting should be on the list of cruel and unusual torture punishment!

Dean Winchester waiting

Look! I found a gif of Dean Winchester – waiting!  It has been way too long since Supernatural made an appearance over here! (And oh my gosh, they came back from their midseason break with a bang!)

So, on one hand:

Don't rush things, anythign worth having is worth waiting for

Okay, I’ll wait.  But on the other hand:

dont-wait-too-long-you-might-miss-your-chance-quote-1

Well, I don’t want my chance to go by!

But then, there is patience, and well, that applies to every day (and I’m way better about acting good while waiting!)

patience-is-not-the-ability-to-wait-but-the-ability-to-keep-a-good-attitude-while-waiting-quote-1

(I don’t think this post should count towards how I act when waiting… but, if you can’t see me constantly tapping my foot, then it might not be happening – so maybe this post isn’t me being impatient and bringing y’all along for the ride, maybe I’m just sharing my life!)

Who am I kidding – I’m impatient and bringing y’all along for the ride!!

Life is too short to wait

I sense my new motto!

Happy Wednesday everyone!

And yes, all is well, no one is sick or dying.  And in the grand scheme of things, I’ll have forgotten this by next week… the point really is just how I’m not a fan of waiting! When I went back and read this, I realized I might need to clear that up!

Fairy Gardens Are Not For Me

Today at lunch I was scrolling through my Pinterest feed and ran across a Fairy Garden:

Fairy garden

So, I did a search, I was wondering how many people actually did Fairy Gardens.

Fairy garden 2

Apparently a lot of people!  You can even get a Fairy Garden Camper.

Fairy garden 3

Or a Pirate Fairy Garden House!

Fairy garden 4

And this is all very cute – but I have to wonder…

HAS EVERYONE LOST THEIR MINDS?  Fairy’s are not nice creatures!  Fairy’s are known for mischief, and malice and the stories about “wee people” are always ones of how to survive an encounter! What ever you do, don’t eat the food!! If you eat food offered by a fairy, then they will enslave you and you can never return to your life.

Fortunately, you can defeat a fairy if you are close to being ensnared.  If you spill salt, a fairy must stop and count each granule, thus giving you time to escape.

I’m not sure what type of people are inviting fairies to move into their yard,  but I can tell you – it’s not me!

Keep calm and fight the fairies

25 Songs in 25 Days – Day 17

25 Songs in 25 Days – Day 17 – A song that makes you want to dance.

Yes, you have seen this before.  Yes, you will probably see it again.  But, no joke, last time we were camping this song came on and Mr. T cracked up as I “danced” along by mimicking this video.

I am just that cool!

I dance all of the time.  In the kitchen.  In the back yard.  You name it, I’ve done the booty shake there!

Now booty shake your way over to those that are also playing along!

25 Songs in 25 Days – Day 5

25 Songs in 25 Days – Day 5 – A song that is often stuck in your head.

This is stuck in my head most days for several reasons.  First off, Kansas.  ‘Nuff said.

Secondly, almost every day I watch Supernatural.  I think I might have mentioned a slight addiction I have to this show.  Because I love this show, I have it as the ringtone for one of my friends, the one that is guaranteed to call me once a day, that way I can hear it!

Sunshine Award

Thanks to Container Chronicles for giving me the Sunshine Award, which is an award given to bloggers who have been inspirational.

sunshine-award-1The rules are simple:

  1. Nominate 10 other bloggers.
  2. Give 11 facts about yourself.

Now for the hard part – coming up with 11 things to share with you!

1. Yesterday I got a text from Mr. T.

Wanna have lunch with me today?! I am in the mood for Taco Casa… I would love if you could bring me some.

How does a mom say no to that? 🙂 I love, love, love the fact that my teenager still enjoys spending time with his mom.  I love the fact that he enjoys when my hair is purple and isn’t embarrassed by it, and yes, I know that he really wanted Taco Casa (a really good fast food Mexican restaurant for those of you not lucky enough to have one!) but the fact that I got to come along with it was Awesome!

2. My friend Erica and I text pictures of our food to each other.  While it’s not normally a competition (usually it’s more of a validation “Look! I cooked!”), yesterday it turned into one.  She sent me a great shot of her lunch:

E lunch

And in return, I sent back this, with the caption “I win”.

lunch with Mr T

Her husband is contesting my “win” currently, but really, I don’t care how bad my bean burritos were compared to her bruschetta chicken, cause my teenage son invited me to sit with him at the table with four of his friends!

3. Here is the tweet that Mr. T sent out after I left.  (Mom, just skip this next part, it was funny in context, I swear it was!)

T tweets

Yes, my son’s Twitter handle is currently Master Sex Appeal.  Yes, he is making a duck face in the photo.  Yes, he’s wearing makeup.  But, we were practicing our Halloween make up that night, and then because it was so funny, we were making duck faces and taking selfies.

4. I cannot make a duck face.  I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but apparently the duck face selfie is not for me.  I heard all of you sighing in relief!  You thought I was going to subject you to a duck face selfie, didn’t you?

5.  When my son goes out of town, I tend to live on PB&J and cereal.  My friends tend to call and make sure I’ve had the PB&J and make sure I’m not just living on cereal.

6. My dad instilled in me a love of Science Fiction and I like to indulge as often as I can.

Star Trek predicting the future

7. You all know that when Dean Winchester comes to life he will be mine.  Mine I tell you! MINE!

Dean Winchester

8.  I found out today that one of my best friends and I have been friends for 29 years.  That makes me sound older than I really am!

9.  I have multiple ghost/haunted house related activities on my Bucket List.  I’m actually pretty sad that my house isn’t haunted.

10.  MeatLoaf is one of my favorite artists.  Seeing him in concert was a magical experience!

IMG_1028

11.  I have a Lion King tattoo.  Sort of.  I have an infinity symbol with Hakuna Matata woven in, and I worked hard for that!  Hakuna Matata is Swahili and it really does mean “no worries”.

And now, 10 bloggers that have inspired me, both in the blogosphere and in real life:

  1. Surviving the Madhouse
  2. Winding Road
  3. Little Steps
  4. Orts of Sorts
  5. Soul Healing Art
  6. Mummy Flying Solo
  7. My Journey to Live an Authentic Life
  8. Kids “R” Simple
  9. Me, Myself and Kids
  10. Graced by Emilie

Please take a moment to visit those I’ve listed above and show some love!  Tell them Kate sent you! 🙂

And, now, in honor of Hakuna Matata, here are some bloopers from the movie:

It’s the End of the Year as we Know it!

Goodbye 2013 and Hello 2014.

I’m currently thinking about New Year’s Resolutions… I can’t wait to share them with you all!

Until then, I’ve decided to get on the band wagon and provide you with my Top 5 Blogs from the past year!  Whoo Hooo!  Lucky you!

Now, I do have a disclaimer.  I eliminated my very top blog as it has 2,000 more hits than the next one down… obviously not a fan favorite, just a search engine favorite!

I think that this post is a hit because of the search terms; however, I’m super happy to include it because I like to share the love of the Winchester brothers.  You’re welcome.

The Bucket List

The Bucket List

I did love this post.  Looking back, the formatting is off and I can tell that I have modified the way I blog just a bit; however, I’m really pleased that this one made the list!  I love my bucket list!

The Baby Shower Didn’t Suck

Really? You want to display and then eat a cake that is a baby's butt? Am I the only one that has issues with this??

Really, you want to display a cake that looks like a baby butt and then expect me to eat it.  Not happening.  And if you give me a part of the cake that looks like a human leg I will personally cut off your toes and see how YOU like it!  Okay, sorry, but baby showers can be freaky things and even just posting this brings up an irrational response apparently…

Now, this post still brings a tear to my eye.  In fact, I almost didn’t re-read this post, but I couldn’t help it.  Thanks to all of my fellow bloggers who followed me through this journey, you guys were there through the medical jargon, the laughter and the tears.  This is still my favorite post of all time.  And probably always will be.

What Does Being Brave Mean?

Bravery[3]

There are days that just making it through the day makes me feel brave.  I know that everyone has a different definition of “bravery”, and some of the items that I have trouble with you might be able to breeze right through; but the fact that I do them despite the fact that my heart is pounding out of my chest – well, I’ll take that as a win!

Thank you to those who have read my blogs, and many thanks to those of you that take the time to leave a comment.  I’ve really enjoyed meeting and interacting with all of you this past year – you’ve all brought laughter and light into my life.

These Are a Few of my Favorite Things

When the police come, when the taser stings, when I’m feeling sad,

I simply remember my favorite things and then I don’t feel so bad!

So, Maybe I’m a Bit Sentimental

So, maybe I am a bit sentimental.  Or, maybe it’s just this time of the year.  I love the holidays, once we hit October 1st, I’m on a high the rest of the year (of course, some of that could be the candy and breads and other goodies!).

Halloween is super fun, Thanksgiving is a great time to renew my vow to live a life of gratitude, but Christmas, Christmas is all about the family life I’ve made.  Not just the nuclear and extended family, but my friends that have become family, too.

We put up our tree yesterday.  I know it seems early; however, Thanksgiving comes late and well, it’s a lot of work to put my tree up and I want to enjoy it as long as possible! I’m sitting here with a nice bowl of chili, watching the Cowboys and letting the glow of the lights on the tree take me away! (And, well, because doing three things isn’t enough, I’m writing this blog post, too!)

Tons of memories are made this time of year, and in our family, our traditions have traditions! Every year when we were growing up, mom and dad would let each of us kids pick out an ornament for the tree.  You could track our lives via the ornaments and year after year as we were putting our special ornaments on the tree, one of us would occasionally hold up an ornament and go “oh, I remember when…”

I’ve carried this tradition on with Mr. T, and yesterday was filled of moments “Oh, this was when you did this” or “I made this back when…”

Image

Our tree is nestled in the corner of the living room, out of the way but still visible from every angle.

Image

Here is the little stained glass church that was one of my childhood ornaments.  It is the first ornament to go on the tree, period.  Nothing goes on until I have placed this little guy.  I absolutely love this ornament.  I don’t remember when I got it, but it will always be my favorite!

Image

Look! It has my name!  All the way back from 4th grade!! Which also gives away my approximate age for those of you good at math!

Image

Merry Kissmas! I got this ornament when I was a teenager – and you know you’re as old as me if you recognize the character!

Image

Here is a new ornament!  My friend Kari sent this to me all the way from Alaska!  It’s entirely too awesome for words!

Image

I bought this for Mr. T’s first Christmas – isn’t it adorable? I did have a traditional baby’s first Christmas ornament that was a beautiful blue china rattle sent to me by my friend Melissa; however, one year we dropped it and no amount of glue was fixing that!

Image

First off, yes, there are candy canes all over our tree.  I load the tree up with peppermint and mint chocolate candy canes.  Everyone has gotten used to this and almost everyone who visits automatically grabs one off the tree to enjoy – including me and Mr. T!

Nestled among the branches and candy canes is Elmo, the first ornament that Mr. T picked out all by himself.

Image

Here we have a cloths pin reindeer that Mr. T made when he was little.

Image

Even Spongebob and Patrick get in on the action.  And, to be clear – those are two separate ornaments, I realize now that it looks like they are attached, but they aren’t.  We also have Shaggy and Scooby doo and on the other side of the tree in a perpetual battle you will find Spiderman and Dr. Octopus.

Putting up the ornaments gives me time to reflect on years past, think about the upcoming year and to spend 30 minutes with Mr. T where all we have to do is enjoy each other and sing along with Christmas carols playing in the background.  We laugh and joke, reminisce and make plans and let the stress of the world melt away.

And then I put up another one of my ornaments… it pretty much speaks for itself!

Image

On a slightly related note – I now have to go search for Supernatural ornaments – cause I think that I’d enjoying looking at this every year! Maybe when I write my letter to Santa I’ll ask if he can just wrap up Dean Winchester and leave him under my tree!

Seriously, who wouldn't want to be him?

A Day in my Life – Wednesday Edition

Thanks to Kerry I am participating in the A Day in the Life!  You can read all about it by clicking on the link.

The alarm went off at 3:00 am this morning.  Two snooze buttons later I was up and brushing my teeth and jumping in the shower.  3:35 I was out the door.  My friend Melissa has been staying with me for a week and a half and I had to get her to the airport this morning and we were both pleasantly surprised at how little traffic is out that early in the morning!  I made it to the airport in record time.

I got back home and seriously considered going into work early.  I mean way early.  Imagine how much I could get accomplished!

Then I heard my bed calling my name in a loving tone, like a siren calling Homer to the craggy beach shore.

The bed won.

A couple hours later I crawled out of bed, again.  I made a cup of coffee and checked on Mr. T, who assured me he was eventually getting up before I settled down to work.   An hour later we said our “good-bye, I love you, have a great days” to each other and I debated a second cup of coffee.  The fact that it is Day 2 of Week 4 of C25k had me switching back to water.  All I could picture was the caffeine getting me going and then doing my training and my heart literally exploding.  With that image in mind, water was an easy choice.

Alas, an hour later I was on the torture machine, ear buds in and music blaring.

31-1/2 minutes later I was dying.  I almost curled up in a ball on the bed sobbing; however, I didn’t want to get the bed wet with salt water – because between the sweat and the tears, well… it wasn’t pretty.  I sat and sent a text to a friend “I’m going to have to redo week 4, Today was awful.  I can’t jog.  I can either breathe OR hold in my abs, but apparently I can’t do both.  I only made it 4.5 miles and had to walk 3 of the last 5 minutes.”

His response:  “yeah sounds good.  Keep it up.”

Dude, could it be more obvious that you didn’t read my text? Let me go ahead and tell you, the answer is ‘no’, it could not be any more obvious that you didn’t read my text.

Fast forward through oatmeal, emails, quick scan of the blogosphere and some technical writing.

Then I bit the bullet and called my boss.  We had a long talk as he had mouthed off to me in an email the night before, one of those quick, catty and aimed to hurt remarks.  I in turn felt smoke coming out of my ears when I read it and took time in answering the email.  I addressed the other questions first, and then let him know that I found his remark rude, hurtful and completely inaccurate, and then listed a prime example disputing his comment in the original email.  We cleared the air – and as long as I had him talking, we discussed the mess of his that I spent most of Monday cleaning up.  By the end of that conversation stream he was back on the same page as me and sadly, we were exactly where we were 6 months ago.

An hour and 20 minutes later I was able to hang up.  During that call we did resolve several items, I sent multiple emails and got the dishwasher half way unloaded!  I chained myself to my computer and sat down to work on a project until 2:00 pm when I had to take a break.  I had to run a box and a watch up to T at school (I have no idea… he sent a text asking for the items and sometimes, it’s just better not to ask!) and as long as I was getting out I figured I’d swing by my neighborhood 7-Eleven and grab a slice of pizza.  It wasn’t until I was walking into T’s school, and I caught a glimpse of myself in the reflection of the glass doors, that I realized I was still in my workout pants.  Yoga capri pants.  Yup… that’s what I walked out of the house wearing.  All I could think was how happy I was Stacy and Clinton had retired and there wasn’t a chance of secret footage being filmed for “What Not To Wear”.

Back home and back to work at 3 pm.  I need to focus for one more hour, but I can’t, all I can think about is how far behind I am at work, and more importantly – for my annual Halloween party this weekend!!  I don’t have my menu finalized, and without that I can’t put together my shopping list – and I need to go shopping.  I need to prep, I need to clean so I can get all of my supplies out and make sure I’m not missing anything – and I NEED A PINATA!!!  I don’t have time to go get a pinata!!

Do you know how hard it is to do technical writing when all I can think about is my pinata? Oh – and the fact that I forgot to get anything out for supper.  I’m praying that God performs a fishes and loaves miracle in my fridge and when I open it I will have plenty of food to feed me and T dinner.

Well – I’m at my word count – so here is where I leave you!  I promise I’ll get more work done (doubtful) and the rest of the dishes unloaded (doable).  Mr. T and I will have supper (as long as a miracle happens) and we will do homework, play on our phones and hopefully watch the episode of Supernatural we missed last night!

a day in the life

That’s a day in my life!  Thanks Kerry!
