It’s Award Season!

I’m so blessed, I’ve been nominated for a couple of awards and I can’t wait to share them with you – not because I’m so awesome, but because this gives me a chance to introduce you to other bloggers out there that you might not know about!

First off, thanks ever so much to Kerry at Winding Road for nominating me for the Blog of the Year 2013!  This award was created by the Thought Palette and the nice thing is, I don’t have to do anything! All I have to do is introduce you people to some of the bloggers who have really impressed me this year! If you don’t follow Kerry at Winding Road, I highly recommend that you do, she is such an inspiration as she pushes her limits, tries new things and help me realize that it’s okay to step outside our comfort zones!  Of course, she doesn’t realize that she does all of this, but the fact that she’s doing the daily Haiku challenge for the week pretty much embodies everything I mentioned!

Blog of the Year Award 1 star jpeg

  1. Graced by Emilie – It’s fun to read about Erica raising her two little kids – she’s about 10 years behind me, so it always brings back good memories! Plus, she frequently posts pictures of her adorable kids!
  2. Surviving the Madhouse – Holly has become one of my great friends  and I have so much fun trying to decipher when she speaks “Canadian”.  I kid!  And that’s why I love Holly, despite all that she has been through, she still laughs and jokes and teases right back – plus, she loves Doctor Who!
  3. To See the World in a Grain of Sand – Irish covers such a variety topics on her blog, and it’s always interesting to see what she’ll come up with each day, plus, she’s an avid reader like me! Oh, and she has a nail polish obsession, it’s pretty cool!
  4. Today’s Manager –  Cranston helps me grow as a person and as a manager, his blog is full of wonderful stories that help us become better people and manager ourselves and others!

Thank you Shaun at Looking for reasoning to a complicated world, I am happy to accept the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.  I can’t think of a single topic that Shaun hasn’t addressed in his blog and I think you all should go check him out!

Double The Fun

Winding Road is one of my new favorite bloggers.  She tends to get sentimental when she posts late at night, she writes beautiful poetry, and she’s learning to not be afraid to take risks! As a mother of two, she has some great stories and I’ve been touched and inspired and had great laughs as I’ve read her blog.  If you don’t know Kerry at Winding Road, I highly suggest you give her a follow and spend some time getting to know her.

While all of the above is very true, today I really love her because she nominated me for two awards! You heard me right – Two!! If that wasn’t awesome enough, these are two really cool awards that deal with the blogging community and our relationships with each other.

First is the Reader Appreciation award for those that like or comment on a regular basis.  I love this award because it recognizes those that take the time out of their busy lives to acknowledge that they’ve read the post.  Even just a simple click of the “like” button lets me know that you stopped by.  A comment means that something I wrote was enough to stop you for just a few minutes.  I’ve really enjoyed those who have commented on my blog as it has given me a chance to get to know you all a little better!

I am so very blessed to be able to pass this along to those that have been very interactive on my blog.  I’m very grateful for the time you have taken to let me know if you liked, agreed with, totally disagreed with or even when I’ve completely and utterly freaked you out!  Those little comments and interactions have given me great joy and I’m very pleased to pass this along to you!

  1. Me, Myself and Kids
  2. Surviving the Madhouse
  3. Motherhood Is An Art
  4. My Journey to Live an Authentic Life
  5. To See the World in a Grain of Sand
  6. You Caught Me Sitting Still

The second award is Semper Fidelis Award.

Semper Fidelis is Latin for “Always Faithful” or “Always Loyal” and I’m giving this award to Me, Myself and Kids as he is the embodiment of this award in my mind.  I know that I’ve mentioned him before and I will mention him again.  MMK taught me the meaning of becoming a community and has been there for me with advice (both solicited and not!), comfort when things were going wrong and a sounding board when I’ve needed.

I love writing, which is why I originally started this blog; however, due to all of the wonderful people in the blogosphere I’ve gotten a very unexpected side benefit – becoming part of the community.  Arms have been opened wide and welcomed me in – and we’ve shared laughter and a few tears together and I’m so very grateful and very blessed to have all of you as part of my community.

Versatile Blogger and Wonderful Team Membership Awards

I am so blessed!  I’ve been nominated for a few more awards, and in the interest of saving time and not boring you, I’m going to break tons of rules and I’m also going to combine them in one post so that you aren’t bombarded by my bragging!

Mummy Flying Solo nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award.  I love this award because the name says it all “Versatile”, embracing a variety of subjects, fields or skills.  I like the idea that I’m versatile!

  1. Display the Award Certificate on your website/blog. Check!
  2. Announce your win with a post. Make sure to post a link back to me as a ‘thank you’ for the nomination. Check!
  3.  Present 15 awards to deserving bloggers. Kinda Check!
  4.  Drop them a comment to tip them off after you have linked them in the post. I might do this… or not!
  5.  Post 7 interesting things about yourself.  Yeah Right!
Interesting Things about myself:
  1. I’m a Cancer.  Not that I subscribe to the mass cultural delusion that the sun’s apparent position relative to arbitrarily defined constellations at the time of your birth somehow affects your personality. (15 points if you can name that show)
  2. TV teaches me things – I’ve learned that if you are a secret Santa and you draw the name of a gay man, you get him a cashmere scarf.  A bunch of singing kids taught me this (only 10 points for that show)
  3. I’m a kid at heart and love kid movies.  Seriously, Pixar and Dreamworks have kept me going for the last several years with laughter and lessons.  The secret ingredient is there is no secret ingredient.  It’s all about you.  (20 points if you can guess the movie.)

Okay. Apparently I only have three interesting things to share about myself.  Oh, I’m sure there are more, but this really puts me on the spot – so how about a shameless plug? “If you’d like to find out more interesting things about me – Read My Blog!!!”

In no particular order:

  • Who or What Was That – if you don’t follow Karaboo’s blog full of code names and drama – you really should! Between work, family and friends, her blog covers everything – click the link above to read about The Great Mustard War of 2013.
  • Arash Recovery – I found Arash when he was Freshly Pressed, and so I’m sure at that time many of your saw him too, but if you never read more than that one post you are denying yourself the opportunity to get to know a wonderful man who shares his journey of recovery from an injury that does not define him.
  • The (not so) Secret Life of a PhD Student – I am constantly surprised at how much I learn – and how much I enjoy learning – when I open a new post.  I remember my mom getting her PhD, and it is interesting to see the struggle that the students go through.  We also get links to articles that Student has published, and I’ve been impressed!
  • Shut Up Dad – cracks me up all the time.  We recently were both lamenting the fact that we have to let go of our favorite t-shirt.  He also has a second blog about the comic book he is writing.  Talk about versatile!
  • Today’s Manager – I’m pretty new to following this blog, but I love the way Cranston approaches and offers solutions to common work place situations.  It’s not often that I have to exercise my role as Manager, but I love the articles and keeping my skills fresh and gathering ideas on how to deal with my employees.  Plus, his last article was titled “Booger Fingers”.  How can you not read that?
  • Sarah’s Brand New Chapter – Sarah is newly married, can’t cook and just got a new job.  Despite all of that, I still tend to identify with her and her struggles and her good times.  Her stories are ones that my girlfriends and I tell each other and I’m having fun reading her journey, check her out!

Mummy Flying Solo also nominate me for the Wonderful Team Membership Award.  This one fills my heart because part of blogging goal was to participate.  I didn’t want to be an impersonal blogger that spews forth all of this gibberish, but doesn’t take time to connect.  This is harder than you think, because, at heart, I’m a hermit.  It is hard for me to make connections, and I work hard to be a better person and to connect with others.  So, I feel happy being presented with this, it means that I’m participating!  I’m mingling! (Okay, you can double your points here and get 45 if you can name that movie – but it’s old school!)

I also love this award because there are no rules!!  I don’t have to do anything; however, I want to.  I want to make sure you all know Me, Myself and Kids.  MMK was one of the first people that I connected with when I began blogging, and since then we’ve each done guest posts on each others pages and even a chain blog.  MMK has been my mentor and my inspiration.  He was there when I was ready to quit blogging shortly after starting and he is always there to offer support and encouragement and help point me in the right direction.  I highly recommend checking out Me, Myself and Kids, blog, you won’t be sorry!

Thank you to everyone who reads my blog and follows my adventures.  I look forward to many more years together!

Super Sweet Blog Award

Thank you so much Winding Road for nominating me for the Super Sweet Blog award.  I’d love to say that I’m above all of that, but who am I kidding, you all know that I love the recognition!!

Winding Road and I are new to each other, but I’ve already come to love her honest approach and sometimes the late night sentimental posts that she presents for our reading pleasure.  I highly encourage you to check out her blog!

Now for the rules:

1. Thanks the blogger than nominated you (see above!)

2. Answer 5 super-sweet questions listed below.

3. Include the Super Sweet Blogging Award in your post (like they had to tell me to do this!  I’d include it several times if it didn’t make me look crazy!)

4. Nominate a Baker’s Dozen (13) other deserving bloggers.

5. Notify Super Sweet nominees on their blog.

1. Cookies or Cake?

 – Seriously, can I answer both?  I love cookies, I love cake! I love when you combine cookies with cake!

2. Chocolate or Vanilla?

– Chocolate!! Except when I want lots of toppings and then it’s Vanilla.  🙂

3. Favorite Sweet Treat?

– Off the top of my head, I can’t narrow it down to just one… but all of this talk of cookies and cake, and then my idea of combining cookies and cake made me think of the crack I get from Taco Bell.  If you haven’t read the post – it’s not as bad as it sounds… well, maybe it is!

4. When Do You Crave Sweet Things The Most?

– After I’ve eaten something really healthy, then I feel like I’ve totally earned a treat!

5. Sweet Nick Name?

– I don’t know if this is asking if I have a sweet nick name (which I don’t, really, you know me!) or if I have a sweet nickname for someone else (which, again, I don’t.) So, I’ll just make up some sweet nicknames for your reading pleasure! Sweet cheeks, Sweet Pea and Sweetheart.  There, that should satisfy any sweet nick name craving you were having!

Now time for the nominees – please take a minute and visit their sites, you might find that you have a new blog to enjoy!

  1. Motherhood is an art – Three kids that keep me totally entertained!
  2. The Irish Wench – We are new to each other, but she’s been so sweet!!
  3. Graced by Emilie – Cause you have to be sweet to be my friend IRL!
  4. Fortuitous (all four of them) – With four, you never know what you will get!
  5. 3 Chic Geeks (all three of them!) – Totally there to let my inner nerd out!
  6. Surviving the Madhouse – One of the most awesome and honest blogs out there!
  7. Grow, Glow, Go – I’m new to her, but have loved how open and sweet she is!
  8. Raising 5 kids with disabilities and remaining sane – seriously, name says it all!
  9. The Top 10 of Anything and Everything – mainly cause I’d love to see his blog about all of the blogger awards!
  10. My Journey to Live an Authentic Life – Always entertaining and willing to share her life
  11. Looking Inward with Lily – her Wordless Wednesday’s are the best part of my day!
  12. Waiting on a Word – cracks me up frequently, and she does the WP challenges which I’ve been too scared to try!
  13. Insert your blog here!  I have so many more bloggers that I follow – and enjoy reading – I just can’t pick a 13th person.  So, feel free to grab this and state that I nominated you for it!
